5 affordable must-have looks for fall

Oh hi there!

As much as I love the changing seasons, I have to say, the different bugs that go around at this time kinda bite (pun intended).  Mallory visited me over the weekend, which was so fun.  We did a lot on Friday and early Saturday, but by late afternoon, the sick hit and I wasn’t much fun after that. We spent the rest of the weekend watching movies in bed, going to urgent care, and drinking lots of hot tea.  After she left, I spent all of Sunday and Monday sleeping, so I could go back to work by Tuesday.

Now that we’re in the peak of fall, my fall fashion inspiration is at its height.  After seeing the new fall product at my favorite stores, cool street style in Madison, and everyones’ obsessions on pinterest, I’ve put together the five fall must have looks.  The best part?  Each look can be attained for under $100.  Doesn’t really get much better than that, does it?  Well, let’s get started!

1. Chambray + Quilted Vest

This look is so easy, yet so chic.  Layering fall’s favorite shirt under a cute vest is an effortless way to look put together instantly.  I’ve been eyeing the quilted vest the past several weeks.  I first tried on one at J. Crew and absolutely fell in love– but I’m weighing my options.  Old Navy has an adorable option for just $32!! Total steal, right?  Of course, it is more for fashion rather than function.  If you are looking for a warmer, more functional option, check out the variety at Lands’ End (I personally love the shimmer shawl collar!).

2. Long Sweater + Boyfriend Jeans

This has been my go-to outfit for the past few weeks.  There are few things more comfortable than oversized sweaters– one of which would be wearing said sweater with a broken in pair of boyfriend jeans.  Gap has fantastic boyfriend jeans– I literally get compliments every time I wear them– and the price is hard to beat.  Gap and many other retailers have been extremely promotional heavy for the past few weeks.  If you don’t want to pay full price, you don’t have to.  Just sign up for their emails, wait a few days, and there will surely be a 30-40% off promo code coming your way.

3. Skinny Jeans + Slip On Sneakers

Every retailer has jumped on the growing sport/active trend bandwagon in some form or another.  Quite possibly the easiest way to slip this trend into your everyday style is through your footwear.  Whether you don your Converse or opt for a trendier, more feminine option, there is a whole lot out there in terms of “fashion sneakers” this season.  If wearing the slip on sneaker with the track pant its styled with is too much for your taste, just pair yours with your favorite skinny jeans.  Skinny jeans and slip ons are a no-brainer combination that makes your outfit a little edgier and completely changes the overall vibe.  So cuff up your skinnies and pick your favorite slip on below.

4. Blazer + Oversized Scarf

This combination is my favorite way to tone down a blazer.  Blazers have the reputation for being formal and very business professional– but they don’t always have to be.  I love wearing my blazers in a more casual manner back to denim, a tee, and a scarf.  Toss on some riding boots, and your look is complete.  To make your ensemble extra outdoors-friendly, pick an oversized scarf with more coverage.  I love the plaid scarves Target is offering this year!

5. Field Jacket + …

Ah, the field jacket.  Once I bought mine, I truly felt what love really is.  It is the perfect completer piece for 3 out of the 4 seasons.  I wear mine with everything– skirts, skinny jeans, cords, boyfriend jeans, dresses, track pants, tees, sweaters, oxfords… (and the list goes on).  The versatility is unmatched, and let’s be real– you’ll look pretty damn cool wearing it.  Now, if you don’t have $148 to drop on the original J.Crew version, don’t fret!  I’ve found four great options all under $100!
