Oh hey there!

Over the weekend, my sisters and I were talking about our “signature color”– AKA the color we look best in.  It’s funny, because people tend to know this about themselves, but I had absolutely no idea.  I knew the colors I look bad in: yellow, bright greens, white, pink, etc.  I also knew the colors I wore the most: grey, navy, black, and tan.  But were these colors actually the ones I looked best in? Who knows?  I think it was decided that Mal looks best in purple, Steph in Blue, and me in neutrals.  So it was pretty convenient that I happened to be wearing tan sweater as that was decided.  It’d be rather unfortunate if it was agreed upon that I look awful in neutrals– because 95% of the time, there’s nothing I’d rather wear.

So for my very neutral ensemble, I layered a long, oatmeal heather sweater over a chambray button down with boyfriend shorts and leather ankle boots.  My touches of color came from my multi-color German socks (yes– knitted by a genuine German grandmother!), burgundy satchel, and YSL lipstick.  Some may call my lack of color in my wardrobe boring, but I really wouldn’t have it any other way.  There is something very sophisticated and easy about neutrals, that is harder to attain with a lot of color.

the perfect trench

Hi there!

I’m not sure what it is lately, but my creativity is seriously lacking.  I’ve been spending an obnoxious amount of time writing my posts, when I used to be able to spit them out so easily.  It might be because I’m writing less overall, since I’m out of school– but whatever it is, I hope it ends soon.  Yes, getting inspiration for a post has been tough, as you might expect.  But naming the posts?  I honestly should just hire out that task because I’m nearly incapable of coming up with something catchy nowadays.  Let’s just say this post sat at “Hi there!” for about 30 minutes.  And it was nearly named “Wench in a Trench.”  Well, at least I still have a sense of humor.

Anyway, I’ll get right down to it!  Coats are having a bit of a fashion moment.  Growing up, I remember I hated wearing a coat and I would reluctantly wear it only after my mom forced me to, because, well, it was likely snowing.  I always hated coats because they were ruining my outfit.  Lately, coats are not only super stylish, but also the outfit completer for any kind of weather.  Fall is arguably the best seasons for coats across the board.  The chilly weather is perfect for leather, military, field, and denim jackets, as well as the timeless and classic trench coat.  Trench coats are a staple for every professional’s wardrobe.  They’re classic, modest, and go with just about everything– working for both work and weekends.  I love my khaki trench since it can transform a casual outfit into something much more sophisticated.

I recently wore mine on a chilly fall day with my (new!) elbow-patched sweater, denim, and ankle boots.  And naturally, it wouldn’t be fall if I didn’t complete my look with a plaid scarf.

lazy girl’s guide to fall fashion: part two

Oh hello!

Happy Sunday.  Today is going to be a rather exceptional Sunday.  The Packers play and I’m having a few friends over to watch the game.  I’m going to play hostess and make some football-watching-friendly snacks (AKA- Buffalo Chicken Dip).   In honor of today’s Sunday Funday, I thought it would be a perfect time to share my lazy girl’s guide to fall fashion: part two!  With the weather starting to get colder by the day, the level of effort I want to put into my outfits has been dwindling.  I’m sure most of you can relate on some level.  It can be hard to maintain your always stylish persona on lazy days– but, I am here to tell you that it is possible to still look cool girl chic and downright fabulous when such days occur.  So put down the yoga pants, and listen up.

Oversized or long sweaters are a life saver in my book.  The length is flattering.  They’re totally on trend.  They easily hide my food baby from my Panchero’s burrito.  What’s not to love?  But the really great thing about long sweaters is that they look super refined, while beating the comfort of just about any other thing in your closet.  So take advantage of this sophisticated front sweaters have and use it as your base for your next lazy day out.  For a quick mall/Target run, I wore one of my favorite long sweaters with my new soft pants, suede bucks, and a shimmer scarf.

Oh hi there!

Sorry it’s been awhile since we last chatted.  If you didn’t happen to read my last post, I’ll update you now– I got a cat!  I’ve had Luna (as in Luna Lovegood) for just over a week now.  She’s about 4 years old and is FIV+.  She is absolutely precious and definitely the perfect furry friend for me to come home to after work.

I mean, am I right?  How can you say no to that face?  Well, I clearly can’t, hence why it’s been so long since I last posted.

One of my best friends from college came to visit over the weekend.  While Luna was staying over at the vet on Friday, I showed her around Madison.  We went shopping, got lunch, went to Gigi’s for cupcakes and attempted to enjoy the day– which was a bit of a struggle since it was in the low 40°s.  I’m not ready to say goodbye to fall quite yet, so I was probably underdressed for the weather, but I honestly couldn’t care less.  I “layered up” in my mulberry color blocked sweater, skinny jeans, a leather jacket, and my classic fall scarf.  The look was simple, but very fall– so it got the job done.

Oh hello!  As if I don’t say this every Friday, but thank you sweet baby Jesus, it’s Friday.  Today is an exciting day because my best friend from college, Mary, is coming to visit and will be here this afternoon!  I’m so excited to see her and show her around Madison.  Today is also very bittersweet – but let me give you a little background first. On Sunday, I adopted a cat named Luna.  She is about 4 years old and is FIV+.  She had been at the shelter for 8 months.  I naturally, could not resist.  I found out after I took her home that I could not have her at my apartment unless she was front declawed, which she is not.  Her surgery is today, and needless to say, there was a lot of crying this week.  So I am so excited to see my best friend today, but I’m so sad that Luna is staying at the vet overnight and has to go through the pain of this surgery.

Isn’t she precious?

On to fashion. Over the weekend, temperatures heated up, so the shorts came back out.  What’s ironic is that it is forecasted to snow tomorrow, but nevertheless, it was summer temperatures last weekend, so I dressed appropriately.  For the unusually warm lazy Saturday, I played it cool in a plaid popover and boyfriend shorts.  Even on these warmer days, I’m still too invested in the fact that it’s fall, so I’m often compromising.  I still want to wear my fall clothes, but I choose my most lightweight options in order to stand up to the heat.  I know people will want to throw something at me for saying it, but I’m kind of excited for this weekend’s cool down.
