Oh hey there!

Over the weekend, my sisters and I were talking about our “signature color”– AKA the color we look best in.  It’s funny, because people tend to know this about themselves, but I had absolutely no idea.  I knew the colors I look bad in: yellow, bright greens, white, pink, etc.  I also knew the colors I wore the most: grey, navy, black, and tan.  But were these colors actually the ones I looked best in? Who knows?  I think it was decided that Mal looks best in purple, Steph in Blue, and me in neutrals.  So it was pretty convenient that I happened to be wearing tan sweater as that was decided.  It’d be rather unfortunate if it was agreed upon that I look awful in neutrals– because 95% of the time, there’s nothing I’d rather wear.

So for my very neutral ensemble, I layered a long, oatmeal heather sweater over a chambray button down with boyfriend shorts and leather ankle boots.  My touches of color came from my multi-color German socks (yes– knitted by a genuine German grandmother!), burgundy satchel, and YSL lipstick.  Some may call my lack of color in my wardrobe boring, but I really wouldn’t have it any other way.  There is something very sophisticated and easy about neutrals, that is harder to attain with a lot of color.

the perfect trench

Hi there!

I’m not sure what it is lately, but my creativity is seriously lacking.  I’ve been spending an obnoxious amount of time writing my posts, when I used to be able to spit them out so easily.  It might be because I’m writing less overall, since I’m out of school– but whatever it is, I hope it ends soon.  Yes, getting inspiration for a post has been tough, as you might expect.  But naming the posts?  I honestly should just hire out that task because I’m nearly incapable of coming up with something catchy nowadays.  Let’s just say this post sat at “Hi there!” for about 30 minutes.  And it was nearly named “Wench in a Trench.”  Well, at least I still have a sense of humor.

Anyway, I’ll get right down to it!  Coats are having a bit of a fashion moment.  Growing up, I remember I hated wearing a coat and I would reluctantly wear it only after my mom forced me to, because, well, it was likely snowing.  I always hated coats because they were ruining my outfit.  Lately, coats are not only super stylish, but also the outfit completer for any kind of weather.  Fall is arguably the best seasons for coats across the board.  The chilly weather is perfect for leather, military, field, and denim jackets, as well as the timeless and classic trench coat.  Trench coats are a staple for every professional’s wardrobe.  They’re classic, modest, and go with just about everything– working for both work and weekends.  I love my khaki trench since it can transform a casual outfit into something much more sophisticated.

I recently wore mine on a chilly fall day with my (new!) elbow-patched sweater, denim, and ankle boots.  And naturally, it wouldn’t be fall if I didn’t complete my look with a plaid scarf.

Hi friends!

Happy Tuesday! It’s official— I can now say my wardrobe is complete! I finally gave in and purchased the #1 item on my fall wish list: Madewell’s Charley Ankle Boot.  I strategically waited for a good promo in order to knock off $60 and they were worth the wait.  A suede/leather combo, these boots go with everything.  They’re the ultimate fall boot and I can’t wait to break them in.

I took them for a test run over the weekend, while shopping with my sisters.  Other than the typical mild discomfort of breaking in a new shoe, these were pretty darn near perfect.  Since we experienced some unseasonably warm weather, I took advantage and wore my chambray shift dress while I still could– paired back to a neutral scarf, layered leather bracelets, and of course, the ankle boot.

Hi there!  I can’t believe it’s already Thursday!  This week has thankfully gone by pretty quickly.  I’m starting to slowly get to have more of a life outside of work, which is great for many reasons (mainly my sanity), but it means I get to blog more frequently.  The timing couldn’t be any better either, since blogging about the fashion of my favorite season practically makes me giddy.  Luckily, in Wisconsin, it’s officially sweater weather– and I’m taking full advantage.  Layering is the name of the game and fall is like my personal Olympics.  I am someone who rarely wears the same outfit twice– and it’s not because I have oodles and oodles of clothes.  Layering is my forte and I enjoy finding new ways to wear clothes in my current wardrobe.  I love the challenge of thinking outside of the box and looking in my closet and saying to myself, “what have I never worn _____ with before?”  It’s a great little exercise to do, especially when you’re cutting back on shopping.

I recently found myself looking in my closet at one of my favorite sweaters, wondering how to wear it differently than last year.  I’m definitely preppier than I was a year ago, so I went with a plaid popover, black skinny jeans, and rose gold accessories.

hello, fall

Oh hi there!

Happy Friday! I’m always so chipper on Fridays, which is ironic, since it’s the day I’m running on the least amount of sleep from the whole week.  I’m rewarding myself for the insane amount of time I’ve been working lately by taking a small trip home this weekend.  I miss my kitties, so the 4 hr+ drive will be worth it.  I’m excited to see my dad and my sisters for a few days– and I’m especially excited for the weather!  It’s supposed to be mid 70s and sunny.  Perfect fall weather.

Now before people start throwing out all that “basic white girl” crap, I’d like to say that fall has been my favorite season before it was cool to have fall as your favorite season.  And yes, I like pumpkin spice lattes, but I like everything pumpkin and always have.  So with that aside, fall is the best 2-3 months of the year for me for every reason: the weather, the food, the colors, the sports, and the fashion.  I have a field day wearing ankle boots, sweaters, oxfords, scarves, and aviators every day of the week.  My most recent addition to my fall wardrobe is my brand new (and longly coveted) military jacket from J. Crew.  This olive jacket of perfection is the completer piece for fall.  It literally looks good with just about everything, while being both fun and sophisticated.  I donned it for the first time with my favorite boyfriend jeans and a stripe tee for an ultra-casual weekend style.

Also, check out my first ever manicure.  I was pretty stoked.
